01Why we built SFTP.cloud

We could not find a good argument for reading your files.

For more than a decade we sold software that our customers installed and ran themselves. Owning it makes total sense in certain use-case scenarios. But that also comes with the need to patch it, monitor it, and troubleshoot it when something goes wrong, and that's not a task everyone wants to undertake.

So, for all those use-cases where running the whole stack on-prem was unjustified or simply impractical, the obvious answer was for us to run it for them. The problem with the obvious answer is that it usually means taking custody of their files and holding the keys to their storage, and we had spent a decade watching what happens to companies that do.

So we built something where we run the service and you keep the data. Not as a compromise between the two, but because we could not find a good argument for why a file transfer vendor should be able to read your files at all.
